Robert Anderson spent most of his working life as a Royal Scots Dragoon Guard. During his 24 years of service he was based in Edinburgh, Hereford, Germany, Catterick plus many more. During his service he had also seen three tours of Northern Ireland and one tour of The Gulf.
After retiring as a Sergeant he move into the security business and latterly worked as a Civilian Training Officer for Strathclyde Police, based in Clydebank.
After enquiring about the cottages, Robert was duly informed that they, subject to a waiting list, were for ex-Service men, women and their families and couldn’t wait to put his name down.
Robert said: “By the time I reached Erskine I had decided that I was taking the house, without even seeing it.”
After five years in his cottage, Robert and Linda were informed of Erskine’s plan to replace all its currently occupied properties with new state-of-the-art bungalows. Robert jumped at the chance to be the first into the new builds and has not looked back since.
He said: “The difference between the old cottages and here is night and day. You could get up in the morning and you don’t realise how cold it is outside until you get outside. It is just quite incredible.’
“For these young men and women coming back from wars like Iraq and Afghanistan, to know there is somewhere like Erskine for them to go and help them move into Civvy Street, is priceless.”
